Performance Models of An Interconnection Network for Broadcast Communication

چکیده

1. Abstract Due to advances in fiber-optics and VLSI technology, interconnection networks which allow multiple simultaneous broadcasts are becoming feasible. The performance of a multiprocessor system based on a broadcast interconnection network is examined using analytical models and simulation under the message-passing and distributed-shared-memory paradigms and is compared to similar performance measures on multicomputer systems based on the crossbar and the torus. The effect of collective communications due to synchronization, data multicast and cache coherence is examined. Results reveal that the performance of a broadcast interconnection network is the least affected by large message communication times, compared to the other two architectures considered here. Even in the presence of intense synchronization, processor utilization remains practically unaffected while it drops quite dramatically in the other architectures.

Network Communication with Independent Nodes∗

This research is mostly concerned with broadcasting, a fundamental task in network communication. In broadcasting, also called one-to-all communication, information originally held in one node of the network (called the source) has to be transmitted to all other nodes. This communication pattern finds it main applications in the field of interconnection networks for parallel and distributed arc...

Modeling the Performance of Communication Schemes on Network Topologies

This paper investigates the influence of the interconnection network topology of a parallel system on the delivery time of an ensemble of messages, called the communication scheme. More specifically, we focus on the impact on the performance of structure in network topology and communication scheme. We introduce causal structure learning algorithms for the modeling of the communication time. Th...

Performance Analysis of a New Neural Network for Routing in Mesh Interconnection Networks

Routing is one of the basic parts of a message passing multiprocessor system. The routing procedure has a great impact on the efficiency of a system. Neural algorithms that are currently in use for computer networks require a large number of neurons. If a specific topology of a multiprocessor network is considered, the number of neurons can be reduced. In this paper a new recurrent neural ne...

Hot-Spots and Message Combining in An Interconnection Network for Broadcast Communication

Due to advances in fiber-optics and VLSI technology, interconnection networks which allow multiple simultaneous broadcasts are becoming feasible. In such large systems hot-spot contention can occur when several processors concurrently request access to one data structure with resulting severe performance degradation. To minimize the effect of hot-spots in the broadcast architecture, messages ar...
